In 2024, Bristol was one of the 23 local authorities ordered by government to bring forward plans to reduce illegal levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) emissions in line with EU air quality targets ‘in the shortest possible time’. WebThis direction directs Bristol City Council , to implement its local plan for NO2 compliance and to prepare and submit to the Secretary of State a full business case in connection with duties in respect of air quality under Part 4 of the Environment Act 1995 and as part of the UK plan for tackling roadside nitrogen dioxide concentrations 2024.
